Well that’s… quite a title.
Of course, I think we’ve all heard about Bill Belichick’s much younger 24-year old former-cheerleader girlfriend (he’s 72 years old) named Jordon Hudson, who he met on a plane. She stole the show at the NFL Honors Ceremony, and it was revealed not long ago that he had hired Jordon Hudson to help him out with the team’s social media in his new gig as head coach at the University of North Carolina, even requesting that UNC staff copy Hudson on their emails to him now that she’s helping out.
It’s fair to assume that Bill probably knows next to nothing about social media, so whatever… he’s Bill Belichick, he can do what he wants. But her role is apparently, kind of, more official than just being copied on some social media emails, because per new reporting from Matt Baker of TheAthletic.com, Hudson’s official title is “Chief Operating Officer of Belichick Productions,” which he obtained via emails that showed the title in her signature.
Because Belichick works as head coach for a public university in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he is required to make all of his official communications public record, specifically to the media, if a request is made correctly through the proper channels… and even though Hudson doesn’t officially work for the school, her emails were made public because she was in communication with people who do work for the university.
Baker did not find any registered business known as “Belichick Productions,” so it seems likely that they just made it up so it would look like she had some business being so involved in all of this… unless he’s planning to start one and hasn’t gotten around to doing all the filings seeing as he’s been busy trying to make a mediocre football program halfway decent.
Included in the emails were correspondence that showed Hudson ensuring critical comments of Belichick on UNC football page social media pages were taken care of and deleted. She said on February 13 to an undisclosed recipient:
“Is there anyone monitoring the UNC Football page for slanderous commentary and subsequently deleting it/blocking users that are harassing BB in the comments?”
The next day, Belichick added:
“I cannot believe that UNC would support my being called a ‘predator.’”
Yikes… looks like they’re already in for a rough season and that honeymoon phase is way over.
But possibly the wildest part was when Hudson took it upon herself to make sure that Bill’s son Steve, who was hired as the new defensive coordinator at Chapel Hill this season, was represented in a way that she felt was appropriate. She asked the social media team to stop the narrative around the “nepotism” of him getting that big position, writing on December 22nd:
“Though Steve Belichick is in fact Bill’s son, he should be depicted and represented as his own established, credible entity as opposed to an extension of Bill. It can be easily misinterpreted that Steve is simply benefitting from nepotism but that is not the case. Steve was fortunate to have learned defensive football strategy from the ‘greatest defensive mind’ of all-time. He has earned his position due to his performance and output…
It is really worth emphasizing the point that Steve has the experience of being a COLLEGE defensive coordinator and will bring a plethora of knowledge to the coaching staff. I believe being strategic about the depiction of the Steve will prevent controversy and show upmost respect towards Steve’s career, validate Bill’s decision as a HC to hire Steve.”
I mean, this is just insane… the woman doesn’t even work for the school and is trying to tell them how to run things? She’s basically Bill’s PR mouthpiece. This isn’t some high school football team, and this definitely isn’t the Bill Belichick that we all knew in New England. I guess that explains why Jordon was on the sidelines during the UNC spring practice over the weekend. She’s got a big role at “Belichick Productions.”
The whole thing is honestly laughable (giving “clown show”), and I don’t think any of this bodes well for UNC football this season… it all seems so unserious, and if nothing else, this all provides a huge distraction and takes away from the attention that should be on the team as they get closer to football season with a brand new head coach.
But as a self-proclaimed Chapel Hill hater, I’m kind of living for it…
