Owl Flies Into Virginia House, Perches Atop Christmas Tree

Owl on Christmas tree

That’s got to be a good sign, right?

When the holiday season rolls around, it seems as though there’s always Christmas spirit filling the air. You can sense it when you hear a bell ring, when you a star shining bright in the night sky, or seeing lights intertwined within a Christmas tree shining bright. For me, I really feel the Christmas spirit when I’m sipping on spiked eggnog.

It’s crazy to think that Christmas has already come and gone in 2024. You’ve obviously still got that weird week between December 25th and New Years Day. That period isn’t all that bad, and often provides a “no judgement zone” for cracking open drinks at any time of the day. Just throw one back and say, “To the New Year!”

This time also allows for all of us to slow down a bit and think about the holiday season behind us. One family in Virginia will really be thinking about how blessed they were with Christmas Spirit when they had a wild animal fly into their home and act as a incredibly realistic tree topper (realistic because it was 100% real).

It’s unclear how the owl got into the house, but as I was mentioning earlier, having an owl come in and land on your Christmas tree seems like a good thing. In the video, you can see the beautiful barred owl flying back and forth between the family’s kitchen and the top of their tree placed in their living room. It appears that this happened around December 19th.

The kids that got to witness it all certainly found it magical, and it provided a Christmas moment that they’ll surely never forget. Eventually, the authorities from the Animal Welfare League of Arlington were able to capture the animal and release it back into the wild from what appears to be the family’s back porch area.

The attached video and caption below tell a little bit more of the story:

“A Virginia family had an unexpected Christmas visitor when an owl flew into their home and perched atop the Christmas tree. ⁣The barred owl came in through the chimney, and the Animal Welfare League of Arlington was able to capture it and release it back into the wild safely.⁣”

How is it that I’m jealous of a family for being put in a situation where they had to call the Animal Welfare League of Arlington to their house? If you had to have a nuisance around Christmas, a beautiful owl landing on your tree seems like the one to have.

Everyone that came across the video online admired the owl’s ability to land and perch so gracefully atop the Christmas tree. They also left some funny comments below the post like these:

“Who got accepted to Hogwarts?”

“Owl Be Home For Christmas.”

“That’s an incredible tree topper.”

“Yeah, that’s his house and Christmas tree now.”

“If a bird ever flies into your home, turn out all the lights. Open one exit for the bird, and light up the one exit. The bird will fly towards the light. Merry Christmas!”

I don’t know if that last comment is truthful, but I do know that will be my first attempt at bird removal if I ever find myself in a similar situation.
