Yellowstone fans and the actors and actresses that bring the show to life have something in common: They don’t want the rollercoaster to end.
Which if we’re being honest, beggars can’t be choosers. There were a lot of fans that were just yearning for the show to come back to finish the fifth season after it’s long hiatus. So now that Yellowstone is set to conclude – albeit without Kevin Costner (seemingly) – it’s a little bittersweet.
The second half of season five is set to start airing in November of this year. It’ll be a six-episode installment, and after that, the Yellowstone universe’s staple show will be wrapped up. Fans can find some comfort in knowing that various spinoffs are still in the works, and one actor who plays a pivotal role in the main show is hoping that he too can find some comfort in a spinoff show of his own.
Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler in Yellowstone, sat down with Cigar Aficionado recently and teased that he would be on board to continue playing his character after the main show does its final bow:
“I don’t make the decisions – I’m a hired gun. Would I like a spinoff? Yeah. It’s been a pleasure working with this cast, with Taylor Sheridan; why would we stop a good thing? Yeah, pen it and let’s do it.”
Not only does that sound great, saying that also supports the idea that Rip Wheeler makes it out of season five alive. Sorry to throw out a potential spoiler there, and it really isn’t one. With spinoffs, they could easily go back and do a “Rip Wheeler prequel” even if the character’s story ends in the main Yellowstone show.
But anyways, Hauser went on to say that not only does he love the character he plays – he legitimately loves the work he gets to do:
“I have the greatest office in the world. I’ve been saying that for seven years. I get to go out in nature, ride a horse, chase cows, cut rope, rein at times…it’s a very special role.
At the same time too, I kind of kick myself, remind myself, this is about as good as it gets.”
That certainly sounds like a great workplace to me – so who do Yellowstone fans need to talk to in order to get this Rip Wheeler spinoff moving forward?
Just watch this “greatest hits compilation” of the character and try telling me that you wouldn’t be on board for some sort of Rip Wheeler spinoff series:
