Really? We’re doing this? C’mon…
The countdown is officially on as we prepare for the Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 premiere, the final season of the hit Paramount Network series.
Set to premiere on November 10th, Taylor Sheridan and company will bring the flagship series to its dramatic conclusion (after quite a long and frustration hiatus), and it’s gonna do it without its million dollar star and patriarch of the Dutton family… Kevin Costner.
And look, I’m excited to see how it all wraps up (I’ve invested too much into this show and written too many damn blogs about it to bail now), but I can totally understand why people are over it. In fact, the second I publish this blog I’m probably going to get 2 dozen comments saying “who cares?” and “people still watch this show?”
I say “probably” because I don’t read them…
Anyways, I get it. It’s been two years since Season 5 Part 1 premiered (a shorter season), which came a full year after Season 4, which came a year and a half after Season 3… frankly, it’s been a lot of waiting and not a lot of watching. Plus, Kevin Costner is gone. Your main character…how they’re gonna pull that one off is anyone’s guess (some fan theories here), but it’s not gonna be as good either way. No matter how Taylor writes John Dutton out of the show, it’s gonna be worse than if Kevin was finishing it.
Which is exactly why this new teaser is trying to get fans to think that he might actually come back.
Released today, this ominous teaser trailer is the first real piece of content we’ve gotten from Yellowstone and while its tagline, “Generations of blood have led to this,” gets me a little tingly in all the right places, I’m just not falling for the guy walking in the door.
Check it out:
That guy coming though the Dutton Ranch front door kind of looks like Kevin Costner, right? I mean, you only see it for a fraction of a second, but that’s definitely what they’re trying to do and I’m just not buying it.
Is that John Dutton’s hat at the end?

If they brought Kevin Costner back as John Dutton after all this off-screen drama, that would be the greatest surprise since “Who Shot JR?” 🐴👏👏🤠

I don’t think the Costner thing is over yet. Bet he shows up.

Could it be? Is John Dutton back? Will Kevin Costner pull a 180 and return? I highly doubt it…
Kevin Costner has said on multiple occasions that he would not be in the show, and Taylor Sheridan seems to be unwilling to compromise on some of his rules. Also… it seemed like Taylor didn’t even have it written yet and Kevin wanted to see a script before he took more time away from his own Western project, Horizon.
Costner made an official announcement, regretfully informing fans that they will not see him at John Dutton for the series finale.
“Hi, everyone; I just want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on ‘Horizon’ and doing all of the things that’s required and thinking about ‘Yellowstone’—that beloved series that I love and that I know you love—I just realize that I am not going to be able to continue—season 5B or into the future.
It really changed me. I loved it, and I know you love it. I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning. I love the relationship that we have been able to develop, and I’ll see you at the movies.”
Granted, Horizon didn’t seem to do very well so maybe Kev found a little more time? Once again, I doubt it…
I think Paramount is giving us a little false hope here, and who could blame them? Check out these comments:
Unfortunately no, without Kevin no worth watching. Wish you best of luch though
