Here’s to the late, great Toby Keith.

Today, Koe Wetzel shared a great cover of Keith’s signature song “Should’ve Been A Cowboy,” which was his debut single back in 1993 and included on his self-titled debut album.

His whole country music career took off very quickly after “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Song chart, and it has more than three million spins on country radio too, which makes it the most-played country song of the 1990’s (and rightfully so).

During a couple tour stops in California a couple weekends ago, Koe performed a great rendition of the hit, and needless to say, it looks like the fans were loving it. Koe actually doesn’t do covers all that often, so it’s a rare occurrence and perfect song choice considering Toby recently passed away in February.

And while we unfortunately won’t get to hear a studio cut of the song on Koe’s forthcoming 9 Lives album, I’ll take this because the video so well done and the sound is so high quality that it pretty much sounds like an album cut.

Koe has also shared teasers of all 12 songs on the 9 Lives tracklist, which you can listen to HERE.

Gonna have “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” stuck in my head all day now, too… turn it up:
