Hello, darkness, my old friend…
The eternal optimist in me has (maybe) been shaken to the core once again.
Yesterday, fans of Sturgill Simpson (Read, all real country music fans) had their hopes up thanks to a countdown on his website. Of course, there was lots of speculation that he may be announcing a tour or even new music, though it was more so people dreaming rather than basing it on any facts, considering Stu said he’d be done after 5 albums.
Let's hope Sturgill announces a new album & tourdates and not a vinyl re-issue of a previous LP. 🤞 https://t.co/8hOgRXdukg

That countdown, at least for me here in Virginia, was set to expire at 10am ET today, April 23rd.
It’s now past 11am here on the east coast, but sadly, it appears nothing has changed and the only piece of “news” on the site is the preorder date for the previously announced rerelease of Metamodern Sounds In Country Music.
The Sturgill countdown was for an already announced rerelease preorder? pic.twitter.com/5f7IIKrEg0

BUT don’t fret yet, child… It looks like this may be more of a technology issue than a Sturgill hanging us out to dry issue.
It seems the countdown was set to expire at 10am in whatever time zone you were accessing the website from, but the actual announcement will come at 10am in whatever time zone the Dick Daddy determines. Given he’s a Kentucky boy, I was thinking it may be Central time but my sources (aka coworkers) are confirming that nothing changed, which makes me believe it will be Pacific time to give the entire country time to react to whatever he’s got up his sleeve.
Sturgill Simpson needs to fire whoever designed his website. I mean, having it countdown to 10:00 in your specific time zone instead of to the actual announcement is RANK.

Word on the street is that the announcement is happening at 10:00 Pacific

And one internet sleuth spotted a “Tour” tab added to his website in the Google search results…
EVERYONE STOP WHAT YOURE DOIN.

However, that tour tab (which didn’t list any dates, has since been pulled down, so…. I’m guessing this will all be sorted out soon, and if I was a betting man, I’d say we’re going to have a Sturgill Simpson tour heading our way soon…
Stay tuned people, we’ll get some news soon (probably).
