The cover I didn’t know I needed.

Sierra Ferrell performed at Two Step Inn festival this past weekend, and she also joined Ernest for his Keith Whitley tribute show, which also featured performances from Zach Top and Drake Milligan.

The West Virginia native absolutely blew me away (per the usual) with her performance of “When You Say Nothing At All,” which one of my all-time favorite songs.

Originally written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz, the song was also famously recorded by Alison Krauss & Union Station, Irish singer Frances Black and Irish pop star Ronan Keating, all of whom had versions chart in the Top 10 (and higher) on various charts.

Of course, Whitley first made the song most famous when he included on his iconic Don’t Close Your Eyes album. The single eventually topped the the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in 1988, and remains a fan-favorite to this day.

And Sierra is such an extremely talented singer and performer, and did the late, great Keith Whitley more than justice with this cover. I seriously need a studio version now because I could (and want to) listen to this all day long:
