Gabby Barrett Says Women In Country Music Who Say They’re “For The Girls” Are Really Only “For The Girls They Like”

Fake people in Nashville? No way…

Of course everybody in country music these days likes to brag about how much they do for women in country music. And there’s no denying the female representation on country radio and in the industry in general has been a problem. (Remember “saladgate” a few years ago when a radio programmer said that men were the “lettuce” in the salad and that women were the “tomatoes”)?

But according to one female artist, there are a lot of people who claim to be supportive of women in country music, but aren’t exactly supportive of all women in the industry.

During an Instagram Q&A, Gabby Barrett was asked her thoughts on the competitiveness among women in country music. And she didn’t hold back, comparing it to a bunch of high school girls:

“My whole life through school and through my music career I have seen so many girls say they are “For the girls” but actually AREN’T. A lot of the times, atleast in my experience, they are the same people that tend to give you the cold shoulder. They’re “for the girls” THEY like. It’s sad but it is what it is.”

Of course that’s not exactly a surprise, especially coming from Barrett who is outspoken about her faith and has been criticized for seemingly supporting former President Donald Trump after her liked tweets were scrutinized during the 2020 election.

You’ve gotta think that many of the artists who champion women in country music (not mentioning any names Maren Morris) aren’t exactly lining up to support the American Idol alum, solely because her political views don’t line up with theirs. Barrett’s had some massive hits, including two #1 singles and three top 10s out of the 6 singles she’s released so far.

It’s a sad reality, and highlights just some of the hypocrisy in the industry that’s full of it while pretending to be one big happy family.

But good for Gabby for calling it out.
