We’re all in luck.

And if you were lucky enough to attend Luck Reunion in Luck, Texas yesterday, you got to witness a very special surprise from the icon himself, Willie Nelson and Kermit the Frog.

Kermit joined the red headed stranger live on stage to perform “Rainbow Connection,” which was originally written for the 1979 The Muppet Movie by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher, and was first performed by Jim Henson (AKA Kermit the Frog) in the movie.

It actually peaked at #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1979, and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song at the 52nd Academy Awards.

And of course, country legend Willie Nelson has a famous version of it, as well, which was the title track to his 2001 49th studio album. His daughter, Amy, was just five years old when she first heard the song in the aforementioned movie, and spent the next 20 years of her life trying to convince her dad to record it in the studio.

Of course, he eventually gave in to his little girl, and Amy even co-produced the song alongside her dad. The album was nominated for the 2001 Country Album of the Year Grammy Award, as well.

Needless to say, it holds a special place in Willie’s heart (and many others, obviously), so it was really sweet to see them on stage together. The one and only Willie Nelson, ladies and gentlemen:

Willie also just announced that his 75th solo studio album The Border will be out everywhere on May 31st. The legend lives on…
