People Are Convinced That Morgan Wallen’s New Song “Lies Lies Lies” Is A Response To Megan Moroney’s “No Caller ID”

Here we go again.

Remember a couple years ago when Megan Moroney released “Tennessee Orange” and everybody was convinced that the song was about hardcore Tennessee Volunteers fan and fellow country star Morgan Wallen?

Morgan and Megan were going back and forth on Instagram in a way that had fans wondering if they were in a relationship, and Megan sent the rumors into overdrive when she confirmed that she was wearing Morgan’s shirt in a teaser photo that she posted for the song.

Of course neither of them ever confirmed that there was anything more than a friendship between them, with Megan saying that she would rather keep that part of her life private:

“I’m not the kind of person that likes to talk about things like that. All my songs are about people.

‘Tennessee Orange’ is a very nice song, but if I told people who it’s about, then they would ask me who ‘Sleep on My Side’ is about. I can’t tell you that because it’s not a nice song!”

But now the rumor mill is churning once again after Morgan dropped a new song that fans are convinced is a response to Megan.

On the one-year anniversary of his chart-smashing One Thing At A Time studio album, the Tennessee native released a seven-song project called Abbey Road Sessions, which was recorded in London in Studio Two of the iconic Abbey Road Studios.

In addition to new versions of some fan favorites like “Everything I Love” and “Thinkin’ Bout Me,” Morgan also debuted a new song called “Lies Lies Lies.”

He previously played the song during an acoustic set at the end of February, but this new video features the whole song and more of a full production with his entire band.

In the song, Morgan touches on heartbreak and how the “90 proof is telling me lies, lies lies,” as he begs the girl to stay telling her there’s “nothing I wouldn’t do for you.”

“Lies, lies, lies
Look into my eyes, eyes, eyes
I’m still a fool for you
Nothing I wouldn’t do for you
Lies, lies, lies
Girl I’m on a downhill dive
Habits and hard heartbreaks are hard to break
So I just tell the same old lies, lies, lies
Yeah, baby I can try, try, try”

Now, we don’t know who the writers are on the song, and Morgan hasn’t given us much backstory other than what’s actually in the lyrics. But that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating that the song is about Megan Moroney and is actually a response to her latest single, “No Caller ID.”

“Here you come again, and there you goNo coincidence, you always knowWhen I’m movin’ on, you move back inWith a half-ass, “Sorry, how you’ve been?”Why do you do it? Do you just hate losin’?Here you come again, who could it be?It’s 3 a.m., no caller ID”

And still others think that “No Caller ID” is a response to another one of Morgan’s songs, “Tennessee Numbers” from his One Thing At A Time album.

“I’d say, “Damn, it’s good to hear your voice, feels like it’s been forever”Ask her how’s her mom and them, and how’s that West Coast weather?Yeah, I know, it’s late, I’m sorryBut, no, I swear I ain’t that drunkI know she won’t, and I don’t blame herBut if she ever picked it upI’d tell her it’s my fault and I still love herBut she quit takin’ calls from Tennessee numbers”

Personally that one seems like a better theory to me, because “Lies Lies Lies” doesn’t really seem to directly respond to what Megan’s saying in “No Caller ID.” But either way, the internet is convinced that it’s Morgan’s response:

Of course we’ll never know whether the two songs are actually related, but it seems like every time Megan or Morgan drop a song people are going to be reading into them to try to get clues about their past relationship (that we don’t even know was a real thing).

Gotta love country music fans.
