From the sound of this story, the NFL Today crew almost got into a good, old fashioned brawl in a Baltimore train station.
Boomer Esiason, Bill Cowher, and Nate Burleson of NFL Today were traveling back from their coverage of the AFC Championship game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs (Chiefs won 17 – 10) when they got into somewhat of an altercation at Baltimore’s Amtrak station.
Boomer Esiason was a guest on WFAN’s Morning Show and talked about how the three NFL analysts crossed paths with an unruly fan as they waited for their train:
“Ravens fans couldn’t have been any nicer at the stadium, and in this situation, for the most part, except for one total a**wipe douchebag. As we are sitting there, this guy decides to come over and say ‘Hey, nice to meet you guys.’
He walks back and sits down right across from us, he’s looking right at us, and then he decides that he’s going to come over and he’s going to talk to us about how the NFL is rigged.”
Esiason went on to say that the fan was using colorful language in his argument, and even got the legendary Coach Cowher riled up with what he was saying.
All the NFL Today crew was trying to do was watch the NFC Championship game on an iPad, and they instead got into a back and forth with an “a**wipe” (Esiason’s words, not mine).
Boomer went on to say that he started talking to another person (a proclaimed giant analytic guy) seated near them in the train station about what was going on, and at one point told the other individual:
“‘Listen, if he gets any closer, I may have to get up and f***ing smash this guy right in the face.’ I’m pissed off now.
I’m trying to watch the game, this idiot is screaming about how the NFL is rigged and it’s this, that, and the other thing. And he’s f-bombing this, f-bombing that.”
And in no surprise whatsoever, Taylor Swift was also included in the fan’s “NFL is Scripted” theory, which has been a popular claim with those who think the path to the Super Bowl has been rigged.
As the story goes, the situation became dangerously close to getting physical, right before the “giant analytic guy” apparently stepped in and told the unruly Ravens fan to cool it and to back off. Cops that were in the train station coming over also helped cooler heads prevail, which is good in general, but bad because I would have loved to see a couple of former NFL players coming together to beat up on an annoying football fan.
