Back in 2020, Tyler Childers announced that he had gotten sober, putting an end to drinking and drug abuse.
Ever since, you can tell that Childers has appeared to be much healthier and happier. Of course, we may not get those outlaw and psychedelic songs that we all know and love from the Kentucky native, but from a health standpoint, ol’ Timmy looks like he’s doing pretty well for himself now.
Being as private as he is, Childers has never really dove into his sobriety journey.
However, he revealed some information about why he decided to finally get sober back in 2020, sharing the story of his decision with the crowd at the New Years Eve Show at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky last month.
Childers told the crowd while speaking about returning to Rupp:
“It was the first gig after the last beer I had. It was the day before me and Sturgill played here. I woke up feeling real real bad. We’d been on the road, we were gonna be on the road, well, you know what happened with COVID.
We were gonna be on the road away from home for like 36 days, and I was terribly terribly terribly terribly hungover.
And I remember sitting at the house, and I remember thinking, ‘Man, this is the one place in the world that you want to be. This is the last day you got to be here and the only thing you can do is sit here and nurse this f*cking hangover you sorry ass.’
So I was like ‘I’m done with that.'”
You can hear the emotion in Childers’ voice when he’s talking about the situation to the crowd, even getting choked up.
