Alligator Struggles To Swallow Enormous Carp On North Carolina Golf Course

Talk about a hazard.

While golf courses are more known to house a bunch of people with too much time and money on their hands, at least the higher end ones, we’ve come to see no shortage of wildlife call the fairways, bunkers, and waterways home.

Remember that turkey thrashing a snake, two bucks squaring up at the tee box, and the black bear chasing a coyote? Those are just some of the creatures that have been spotted meandering the links, but down south, golfers need to worry about a much different creature.

One that’s been around since dinosaurs walked the earth some 65 million years ago. One that can grow to be over 19 feet long and weigh over 1,000 pounds.

Alligators.

Well, two golfers playing at Oyster Bay Golf Club in Sunset Beach, NC got to witness one of these predators in action when they spotted a gator next to some water chowing down on a downright enormous carp.

While not the largest gator out there, probably around 9 or so feet, this guy had scored himself quite the meal when he snagged a big old carp and pulled it on shore to eat.

But there was a problem.

The carp was huge, literally bigger than the gator’s head, and he was having trouble lifting it up, let alone swallowing it. Time and time again he adjusts, flicks his neck, and does whatever he can to try and force it down while scales fly all over the place.

The guy taking the video can be heard saying:

“Cool! He’s eating a fish and he’s huge! You can hear him freaking going to town on that.”

The video cuts off before we see the result, but there’s no question in my mind that he was eventually able to get it down.

Man, this makes me want to start fishing golf courses. Sure, it may be frowned upon, but if fish that big are swimming around in there, I’d say it’s worth the risk.

Keep your eyes peeled when out on the links. You never know what awesome display of nature is just around the corner.
