Australia is widely known to be the home of basically every dangerous creature on the planet (and kangaroos that dropkick cars), and it apparently also houses the most important competition the world has ever seen: Mulletfest.
Mulletfest is exactly what you think it would be. A great number of people that all rock the mullet (business in the front, party in the back) come together to celebrate themselves and each other in one big mullet blowout.
The Grand Final of the Australian hair contest took place at the Hebburn MotorSport Park in New South Wales recently, and acted as the last stop of a competition that has consisted of numerous competitive regional levels of Mulletfest throughout the previous year.
That means that people have been participating in Mulletfest for months on end, and it all came down to this grand finale of people that are both long-haired and short-haired gathering together to compete for the crown of the best mullet in all of the land.
And guess who took home the title of “Best International Mullet?” It was a very deserving Army doctor by the name of Dr. Alastair Bush, and he was more than excited that his long locks were worthy of the ultimate title:
That man has officially peaked.
Bush started growing his hair out back in 2020, and told the Daily Mail that his inspiration for growing out his mullet came from a time when it was hard to get a haircut in the first place:
“It all started when haircuts were banned during lockdown and my nephew and I were looking at funny hairstyles online.
I thought it would be funny to do it and started growing my mullet in the summer of 2021 with the intention of winning the international mullet championships at Mulletfest in Australia. This is widely considered to be the Everest of the competitive mullet growing world.”
You heard the man. It’s a huge deal that he took home the Mulletfest title, and is basically the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest. You can learn more about the 2023 Mulletfest, and who won each category, in the video below:
