Lainey Wilson’s Countryfied Version Of Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” Is Better Than The Original

I NEED Lainey Wilson to cut a studio version of this.

The reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year used to share covers of classic country songs pretty often on her Youtube channel, but this one she did of pop star Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” is actually my favorite.

First of all, that song is a total ear worm, and when I say Lainey’s version is better than Lizzo’s, it’s certainly not a slight to her original, which became a massive #1 hit across the globe upon rerelease in 2019.

It was written by Melissa Jefferson, Eric Frederic, Jesse Saint John, Steven Cheung and Amina Bogle-Barriteau (yes, it really took that many people to write it…), and first put out as a radio single in 2017, when it failed to even chart.

Later in 2019, the song went mega viral on TikTok, and was included as a bonus track on the deluxe version of Lizzo’s 2019 third studio album Cuz I Love You.

It has since been certified 7x Platinum in the United States by the RIAA, and while I don’t typically tend to love Top 40 pop music, “Truth Hurts” is certainly an exception.

It’s such a fun, upbeat girl power anthem, and if you haven’t had it on full blast while getting ready for a night out with your girls… you honestly haven’t lived.

Anywho, when I came cross Lainey’s little acoustic, country cover, I was immediately obsessed, and even though this video is from four years ago and a lot has changed for the now-superstar, I don’t think it’s too late for her to cut it…

I mean, I can only imagine how good it could be with a real production and Lainey’s twangy vocals just belting out:

“I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m 100% that bitch…”

Like I said, I need it.

Definitely do yourself a favor and watch her cover, and I apologize in advance for you getting it stuck in your head for the rest of the day…
