Ernest Leans Into His Bluegrass Sensibilities With New Single, “Kiss Of Death”

Ernest is leaning into his bluegrass sensibilities on this one, and I’m here for it.

The Nashville native is back with his first new release since he put out his FLOWER SHOPS (THE ALBUM): Two Dozen Roses deluxe record in February, and it’s a bit different than what we’re used to hearing from him.

Out everywhere today, “Kiss Of Death” was written by Ern along with Andy Albert and Ryan Vojtesak, and features some awesome banjo and upbeat production that he says was very intentional.

Ernest added that he’s been “digging deeper” into some of the more folk/bluegrass sounds that influenced him at a young age:

“I’m digging deeper into some of the stuff I was cutting my teeth on as a real young kid with a banjo and a dream.

The folk / bluegrass influences that I absorbed from such a young age…. I’ve been playing ‘Kiss Of Death’ and some other new ones on the road already, and seeing our crowd’s reactions to the new music is priceless.”

The lyrics tell a story of a relationship on danger’s edge, as he pleads with the girl:

“Cuz I feel like dancing with the devil
Take my heart and rip it out my chest
When I’m with you I’m good as gone girl
My angel in a fire red dress
My kiss of death
Kiss me, kill me”

I love the catchy melody and unique concept of this song, and I hope we get to hear more along these lines as we start gearing up for more full-length releases in 2024.

And it was all fittingly timed, as the title and some of the sentiments are perfect for Halloween coming up next week so you’ll definitely want to add it to your playlist for all of those spooky celebrations.
