Bud Light Is Bringing Back Their Iconic “Bud Knight” Character To Save The Day

I can’t imagine how the marketing meetings at the Anheuser-Busch corporate office have been going lately with this ongoing, seemingly never-ending Bud Light boycott. If I did imagine though, I’m sure someone at some point said:

“Alright, we’re losing billions of dollars, we’ve tried giving away beer for free, what do we have to do to bring our consumer base back?”

Then someone finally threw out the idea that just might help stop the bleeding:

“Let’s bring back the Bud Knight.”

All I will say is that it’s about damn time they kicked the tires on this one. The “Dilly Dilly” advertising campaign by Bud Light from 2017 to 2019 took the world by storm, and the main character being the Bud Knight gave the beer brand an iconic spokesperson on the level of Geico’s Gecko or Progressive’s Flo.

Just as the Bud Light socials had been dark for a while, the Bud Knight Twitter account had not been active for the past two years or so. That all changed with this from earlier today with the Bud Knight announcing:

“Yeah, I’m thinking I’m back.”

If a brand can make a commercial where TV consumers don’t just check out or look at their phones, that is a huge win. Bud Light and Anheuser-Busch managed to do that with the “Dilly Dilly” campaign, then just abruptly abandoned it back in 2019.

Though the Bud Knight showed up in plenty of different advertisements for the beer brand, this one was definitely one of the more popular ones:

And part of the reason why the ads went over so well is because they capitalized on the Game of Thrones fandom with the commercial series’ settings and characters.

But then, as quickly as the Bud Knight entered our television screens, he shockingly left them when Bud Light partnered with the popular HBO show for a Super Bowl commercial and had the Bud Knight killed off (in classic Game of Thrones fashion) by the show’s intimidating character “The Mountain.”

Perhaps you forgot all about it, which is why I tracked down the switcheroo commercial for you:

I’m all for bringing the Bud Knight back, because what’s the worst that could happen?

Well, the worst that could happen is what’s going on in the reply section underneath the Bud Knight’s most recent post:

Seems like not even the great Bud Knight will bring some of the Bud Light boycotters back…
