Some sad news coming out of the American Idol world.

According to TMZ, Willie Spence, the runner up on American Idol season 19, died in a car crash yesterday at only 23-years-old.

Spence was in Tennessee yesterday when the crash occurred. A family source said that he had a flat tire at some point, got it fixed, and was on his way home to Atlanta from Tennessee when he crashed into a semitruck that was parked on the side of the road.

It was obvious that Spence still had a love for singing, as he had posted a video of him singing a praise and worship song only a few hours before the tragic accident.

Most will remember him for his incredible performances on the show of songs like “A Change is Gonna Come,” and “Georgia on My Mind,” before finishing runner up to country artist Chayce Beckham.

A number of people have already shared their condolences for Spence and his family, with Katharine McPhee sharing:

“God rest your soul Willie. It was a pleasure to sing with you and to know you.”

The two performed a duet together while on the show in 2021.

Producer Randall Emmett also shared:

“I was lucky to have him sing for me live at my home and other events, I will miss you my friend. I know you touched so many of us.”

RIP.
