Tyler Childers is BACK.

Okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, as the Eastern Kentucky native is still, for the most part, enjoying time off the road. Save for a few shows here and there, a couple festivals, and a Red Rocks two-fer coming up, the man has largely been out of the spotlight anticipating the arrival of his firstborn child.

But, during the shows he has performed this year, we’ve heard a ton of new stuff, and quite a few covers work their way into the regular rotation.

We’ve seen the man put together some fantastic covers in the past, from S.G. Goodman’s “Space And Time,” Pink Floyd’s “Time,” Kris Kristofferson’s “Help Me Make It Through The Night,” Hank Williams’ “The Old Country Church,” and many more.

With that being said, I think he may have them all beat with this unique bluegrass twist on “Shoot Low Sheriff!” for John Anderson’s tribute album, Something Borrowed, Something New: A Tribute to John Anderson.

The song itself is a cover from Anderson’s debut self-titled studio album back in 1980.

Now, there’s one thing for certain about Childers, and it’s that he can take a cover and practically turn the song into his own unique version, while still paying tribute to the legend who originally sang the song, and that’s exactly what we get here, as he slowed it down and added a gorgeous fiddle.

You love to see it.

And here’s a look at Anderson’s original:
