Morgan Wade’s Acoustic Version Of “Northern Air” Is Next Level

Where can I sign a petition to get an acoustic version of Reckless?

There’s somethin’ about Morgan Wade with just an acoustic guitar, and her incredible, gritty, voice that just hits different.

She’s been putting out some really cool live performance videos of songs recently like “Take Me Away” and “Last Cigarette”, as well as doing some kickass covers of “I’m On Fire” and “Help Me Make It Through The Night”, but today, we’re getting an acoustic version of her original song “Northern Air”.

From her aforementioned album, Reckless, that was released earlier this year (and is one of my favorites from 2021), Morgan wrote the song with her producer, Sadler Vaden (Jason Isbell’s guitar player).

She describes the heartbreak of an old relationship and how she still can’t seem to move on from it, while she’s stuck in some small southern town and the guy she was in love with went back up north.

The lyrics include some great details that paint the picture of their relationship, like my favorite line that talks about the red wine stain on her dress that never came out and still reminds her of her ex when she looks at it:

“There’s a red wine stain on my white dress
That I bought to impress you.
That night I confessed my truth
I didn’t know it would upset you.”

In the video Morgan posted on Instagram, she mentions that there’s something about this song that strikes her even deeper this time of the year with a chill in the air, and I have to agree with that… although to be honest, I’ve pretty much been listening to it non-stop since it came out in March:

“I don’t know about y’all, but I think there’s something about the melancholy and yearning of Northern Air that punches a little harder this time of year.

I love this acoustic version, hope y’all do too.”

I’m completely obsessed with the stripped-down version of this song, and we need more of them from the other album cuts on Reckless:
