There’s been a ton of noise surrounding the Oklahoma Sooners football program the last couple of days.

Head coach Lincoln Riley announced that he has taken the head coaching job at USC, and several blue chip commits are already jumping ship after the announcement.

However, the latest news coming out of Oklahoma is not surprising at all. In fact, it was inevitable.

A few months back we reported on former five star quarterback Spencer Rattler losing his starting job to freshman phenom Caleb Williams, after Rattler struggled heavily earlier in the year.

It got so bad, that fans were chanting “WE WANT CALEB” in the middle of games.

Once Williams got his chance to get into the game, he led a ferocious comeback against Texas, and it was easy to see that Rattler was not thrilled for his teammate in the least bit.

Rumors began to swirl that the former Heisman hopeful QB would transfer, and his dad even hinted the idea in an interview.

And today, it’s officially official:

Spencer Rattler has entered the transfer portal.

He posted a message on social media, saying:

“Thank you for allowing me to be a student-athlete at this prestigious institution. Thank you to every teammate and coach these last three seasons.

We won several games together and made memories that I will cherish forever. Special thanks to my family and friends for your support. Thank God for the game of football.

It’s the ultimate team sport and brings people and communities together unlike anything else.

At this time, I would like to announce that I have decided to enter the transfer portal to continue my academic and athletic career. Thank you again, Oklahoma. I will miss you.”

So, I guess the question remains…

Will he be able to revive his playing career somewhere else? Or will he go down with Tate Martell as one of the biggest college quarterback busts of all time?

I guess time will tell…
