Here in the real world, everybody can tell that’s not AJ.
If you’re a fan of Alan Jackson, you probably know that the “Chattahoochee” singer has faced a lot of health challenges in recent years.
In 2021, Jackson revealed that he had been battling Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a degenerative nerve disease commonly referred to (ironically) as CMT that makes it hard for the country music legend to stand and keep his balance. While he assured fans at the time that the disease isn’t fatal, it made it harder for the legend to tour and deliver the performance that he wanted for fans:
“It’s starting to affect my performance on stage a little bit, where I don’t feel comfortable and I just wanted the fans and the public to know, if they’ve come to see me in the last few years or if they come to see me in the future if I play anymore, what’s going on.”
As a result, Alan announced last year that he was retiring from touring, and this summer took the stage for the final time in a star-studded show at Nissan Stadium.
So it would be a little odd to see him just hanging out in downtown Nashville.
Of course Alan has his AJ’s Good Time bar on Broadway, and recently opened his Silverbelly Distillery and Alan Jackson Museum just a couple of blocks away. But even before his health issues, Alan was never really one to just stroll Broadway and hang out at his bar on any given night. But recently, several people have been convinced that they spotted the country legend out and about for a night on the town.
That’s because there’s a guy in downtown Music City who bears a passing resemblance to Alan, and capitalizes on that resemblance by dressing like the “Gone Country” singer.

To be clear, neither of those are the real Alan Jackson. But he bears enough of a resemblance that he’s fooled plenty of people, despite the fact that it should be obvious that Alan’s not hanging out on Broadway, especially not without security.
Another dead giveaway if you ever think you spot Alan Jackson out and about is his height: The real Alan is a big dude, standing at 6’4″ tall and wearing a 38-inch inseam in his signature Wrangler jeans. That guy’s definitely not tall enough to be Alan Jackson…
Of course it’s not entirely uncommon to see celebrities hanging out in downtown Nashville, especially given the number of artist bars on Broadway these days. But it IS rare to see them out by themselves without some kind of security, just strolling the street completely unbothered by the crowd. That should be a dead giveaway, but apparently it’s not enough to keep some people from being fooled.
Maybe it’s all the alcohol impairing people’s judgment…
Just remember, if you think you see a celebrity in downtown Nashville, there’s a good chance it’s not the real person…especially if it’s Alan Jackson.
