Is Yellowstone Season 4 Setting The Table For Jimmy Hurdstrom’s 6666 Ranch Spinoff?

Yellowstone Dutton

Gotta love Jimmy.

The loveable idiot of the Dutton Ranch, Jimmy Hurdstrom (played by Jefferson White) is one of the more interesting, and endearing, characters in the entire Yellowstone show.

Brought into the fold by Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and placed on a saddle for the first time in his life, it’s been a tough road for Jimmy.

From learning how to rope and ride, to finding his place among the branded men of the Bunkhouse, from escaping his life as a meth dealer, and becoming a rodeo champ, to falling in love and nearly killing himself a number of times, it’s hard not to root for Jimmy.

A glue guy in the Bunkhouse, a loyal servant to John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and the Yellowstone Ranch… he may have a big heart and an empty head, but the show wouldn’t be the same without him.

But here’s the thing… is the showing moving on without him?

Let’s examine…

Jimmy Betrays John

Ok, maybe betrays is a strong word, but Jimmy definitely broke his word to John and that kind of stuff doesn’t fly around the Dutton Ranch. You give a man your word, especially John Dutton, you better keep it.

Jimmy said he would stop riding bucking horses after he busted his ass the first time. He promised John, who have him a rope to try roping, that he was done, but lo and behold, Jimmy hops on the horse during the Season 3 finale, and nearly kills himself.

And now, with a long road to recovery ahead of him, John gives Jimmy the opportunity to earn his trust back, but not at the Yellowstone Ranch.

No… Jimmy is headed down to Texas.

Yellowstone 6666 Ranch Spinoff

We all know that 1883 is coming this December, a prequel that picks up the Dutton family story from the very beginning and chronicles their journey across the Great Plains in search of a better future in the American West, eventually settling in Montana where the Dutton empire was born.

Starring Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, the first trailer was released during the Season 4 premiere last week, and it looks pretty damn amazing.

But if you remember back to the beginning of the year, it was reported that Taylor Sheridan signed MASSIVE deal with Paramount Network to create a handful of shows, among those is 1883, the upcoming Mayor Of Kingstown, and a Yellowstone spinoff about the iconic 6666 Ranch down in Texas

According to Hollywood Reporterit will tell the story of the West Texas 6666 Ranch, founded by Captain Samuel Burk Burnett in 1900.

“Founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 is where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing.

The 6666 is synonymous with the merciless endeavor to raise the finest horses and livestock in the world, and ultimately where world class cowboys are born and made.”

That show was initially expected to star Ryan Bingham and Jefferson White reprising their roles as Walker and Jimmy Hurdstrom for the new spinoff, however at the time, it remained to be seen if that meant the end of their career on Yellowstone.

And fun fact, Taylor Sheridan and Paramount Network actually went out and bought the entire 6666 Ranch in Texas earlier this year.

So is there where the two shows meet?

By John sending Jimmy down to Texas to earn back his trust, is Yellowstone setting the table for the new Jimmy and Walker spinoff?

In this teaser for Season 4, Episode 3, we can see Walker tell Jimmy that if he was in Jimmy’s shoes, he wouldn’t come back. Perhaps Walker winds up going with him?

It sure sounds like the ducks are getting in that row… I guess we’ll just half to wait and see.
