My ‘Yellowstone’ Season 3 Finale Theory: Nobody Died

A man holding a cigarette

Spoiler alert…

Ok, I’m sorry if you’re still catching up, but by now, you’ve had plenty of time to watch through the first three seasons of Yellowstone and I don’t really feel too bad for you.

It’s pretty common knowledge that the Season 3 finale of Yellowstone was bonkers, and even if you haven’t seen it yet, there’s a zillion other articles on the internet that have already divulged more information just in headline alone.

So that being said, here’s my opinion on the Season 3 finale…

Nobody died.

The Season 3 finale left us with John Dutton getting gunned down on the side of the road, a bomb exploding in Beth’s office, armed assailants barging into Kayce’s office and Jimmy falling off a horse.

Here’s a quick recap:

The obvious conclusion is that any number of those four could have died, but I don’t think ANY of them did.

Here’s why:

John Dutton

For my money, John has the highest odds.

I mean, the dude shot him from point blank with what sounded like a fairly large caliber, automatic rifle. We know he was hit at least once, if not multiple times.

However, it looks like one of the bullets hit his phone, possibly saving his life. AND thanks to the new Season 4 teaser, we know that Rip finds John still alive.

Of course, John could die on the way to the hospital or before an ambulance gets there, but I’m thinking it’s unlikely. He’s the backbone of the series… even if the Emmys won’t give him no love.

Beth Dutton

Season 3 comes to its explosive end (pun very much intended) when a bomb is sent to Beth’s office and detonated when her secretary tries to open it. Unfortunately, the secretary is probably dead as a doornail, but Beth is gonna survive. Shell-shocked, tore up, but alive.

And they all but confirmed it when they detailed the new cast members from Season 4. According to the information released on the new cast, Finn Little, will portray Carter, “a young boy reminiscent of a young Rip. Beth decides the ranch is the best place to teach him a lesson on how to be a man.”

Beth decides? Welp, she must be alive.

Too easy…

Kayce Dutton

Kayce’s situation also looks pretty dire, but he hears the gunfire and immediately flips the desk, draws his pistol and is ready to go to battle. Granted, bullets can rip through a desk, but Kayce is a damn Navy SEAL and nobody’s stopped him yet.

However, my one fear is that he’s the one you least expect so he might be the one to go. It’s a slight fear, so that being said, I’m still betting that he’s alive.

Jimmy Hurdstrom

Jimmy fell off another horse because he’s a moron but watching it again… it barely even looked like a hard fall. Plus, there’s a new spinoff series coming down the line with Jimmy and Walker at the 6666’s Ranch. How’s he gonna be in a spinoff if he’s dead? I mean, c’mon… you can’t kill off Jimmy, right?

Ultimately, at the end of the day, we don’t know who lives and who dies, but my hunch is nobody is dying except whoever did this… and Rip might just be the one to do the heavy lifting.

What we do know…

“Revenge will be worth the wait.”

Buckle up.
