Carrie Underwood On Chris Stapleton: “We Have A Lot Of Outlaw Country Guys But He’s Kind Of The Reluctant Country Star”

I don’t care who you are, you like Chris Stapleton.

And if you’re playing country music, you LOVE Chris Stapleton.

Carrie Underwood recently sat down with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe (virtually of course) to discuss her new Christmas record, her Cry Pretty Tour, surviving quarantine, family life and more, but they also started talking about some of the other artists Carrie is digging like Foo Fighters, Machine Gun Kelly, NF, and the great Chris Stapleton:

Zane: “We’ve got to a point now where we’re playing Chris Stapleton. This is an incredibly well-respected, well-regarded and well-loved artist. What is it about Chris that people love so much? And we know how good his songs are, but I feel like it’s a human experience, people just love Chris.”

Carrie: “He’s kind of the anti-country star. We have a lot of outlaw country guys, but he’s just kind of the reluctant, there we go, the reluctant country star.

He just has this incredible voice. You feel everything that he’s saying. I’m a vocal person. I love just listening to people’s isms and their vocal abilities. He has such a great instrument. And then couple that with just how he writes and he’s so honest and just says things simply, but to the point and put those things together and it’s a pleasure to get to listen to him.”

Hit the nail on the head.
