Thomas Rhett Keeps Moving Towards Traditional Country With Heartfelt New “Things Dads Do”

I have to say, I’ve been very impressed with Thomas Rhett lately.

A while back Thomas said his next record would be “way more country” that the previous stuff he’s put out, and based on everything we’ve been hearing over the past few months, we wasn’t lying. Jury is still out on production, but from these acoustic performances, we’re getting a lot more substance in the songwriting. I dig it.

After admitting to somewhat rediscovering himself being at home in quarantine, he shared a new one called “Country Again,” and people were loving it. Even the folks that don’t typically resonate with Thomas Rhett’s music had good things to say about it.

And then before that one, he name-checked some country classics in a song titled, “What’s Your Country Song” and followed it up with another one called “More Time Fishin” that was pretty good as well.

This latest song, “Things Dads Do,” was supposed to be released on Father’s Day, but hey, Thomas is a busy man. Either way, it’s another step in the right direction for him. Like I said before, this we’re not talking about the second coming of Tyler Childers here, but the momentum is growing.

When a star as big as Rhett is pushing the needle back towards traditional country, I’m here for it.

So without further ado, here’s “Things Dads Do.”

“I wrote this song with my dad, for my dad, and for all the dads out there so better late than never.”
