Blake Shelton Denies Dissing “Old Town Road” In New Single… Lil Nas X Claps Back

Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins new collaboration “Hell Right” is making waves in the music world right now, but not because it’s a great song, it’s because the first verse seemingly takes a shot at Lil Nas X’s smash single, “Old Town Road.”

“Then the girl from the small town took off the ‘Old Town,’ put on a little Hank Jr… Thank God.”

The line set off quite the firestorm on Twitter, with multiple journalists and fans crying foul for two country music veterans like Blake and Trace to call out a young black star like Lil Nas X.

However according to VarietyBlake says the song wasn’t taking a shot Lil Nas X:

“It’s absolutely not throwing any kind of shade at Lil Nas X at all. Blake says this literally has nothing to do with anything at all except how much the song is played. It could have been ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ or any other (overplayed) song,”

According to a spokesperson for Blake, he actually talked to Billy Ray, who “thought it was funny.”

Lil Nas X responded on Twitter saying, “it don’t slap like old town road tho.”

The tweet has since been deleted.

“Old Town Road” officially became the longest-running No. 1 song in history last month.
