If You’re Wondering What Sturgill Simpson Is Up To These Days, He’s Sitting On A Boat Listening To John Prine

Sturgill Simpson is a bit of an enigma. With virtually no social media presence, you pretty much never know what he’s up to until he makes an appearance somewhere like the Opry recently, he shows up in the credits of a random Bill Murray zombie movie, or just so happens to hop on an episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast.

So if you were wondering what he’s been up to lately, it’s floating on a boat in the middle of a lake listening to some John Prine. I can’t say that’s what I would’ve guessed, but I also can’t say that I’m not jealous.

John Prine, along with Tom T. Hall, Dallas Austin, Missy Elliott, Jack Tempchin and Cat Stevens, will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame this Thursday, June 13th, as part of the 2019 class. In honor of that, Sturgill offered up his favorite John Prine song, along with a story about a buddy back in high school that first introduced him to John Prine.

“I was asked to pick out my favorite John Prine song, which is asking everybody what their favorite kind of BBQ is.”

And, make sure you watch til the end for Sturgill’s hilarious sign off.

“That’s Not Country.”
