Santa NO!
That’s not how I remember the story of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” going, do you? Christmas is supposed to be all about loving one another, spending time with friends and family, and spreading holiday cheer. This front yard Christmas decoration that’s going viral shares a slightly different story.
Someone driving by this house noticed that the homeowner’s Christmas decor featured some interesting elements, which mostly revolved around a deer stand wrapped with Christmas lights. I’m sure you can guess where this goes, can’t you? Santa is standing up in the deer stand, and a couple of beautifully illuminated reindeer are standing below – well within range, might I add.
For people that are horrified by the creative holiday setup, first off… look up dark humor. Clearly this homeowner enjoys an edgy joke, and guess what? It’s memorable. When’s the last time you were blown away by a neighbor’s Christmas decorations? This simple yet standout display stands out – no deer stand pun intended.
Secondly, I’ve got some potential explanations for how this front yard is laid out.
There’s an outside chance that the homeowner just wanted to show Santa being a responsible, invested boss. Ol’ St. Nick could simply supervising his deer playing “reindeer games” from an elevated seat, much like parents go to a game to watch their kiddos play basketball or whatever other sport.
On the other hand, this could be an accidental teaser/inspiration for a gritty, horror-style Christmas movie where Santa turns on his reindeer. Yes, I’m confirming that the decorations could be (and definitely are) showing the “Man with the Bag” trying to tag a deer so he can stuff sed big red bag.
Much like Rudolph, the whole thing is a little on the nose, and provides a little bit of a, “Am I seeing what I think I’m seeing?” effect, as the caption to the post alludes to:
“Not Santa in the deer stand hunting reindeer.”

Nothing screams Christmas like Santa sighting in on his own reindeer.
Despite my skepticism, social media users that stumbled upon the drive-by video of the Christmas display were mostly on board with the idea (and one asked a funny question that seemingly can be answered with, “Yes”):
“This in Alabama?”
“They don’t have any other lights up either.”
“That’s awesome. I’m gonna do that next year.”
And to save that specific social media user some time, may I direct you towards this absolutely real product that’s on sale from Walmart for the low price of $139.99.
You could save some time (but maybe not money) and not have to worry about putting up a deer stand with this unhinged inflatable:
Admittedly, that’s a hilarious decorative inflatable. There’s a lot of attention to detail, from Santa rocking what looks like arctic camouflage to his penguin spotter doing a terrible job of alerting him to the bug-eyed reindeer standing just below the stand. The 7-foot tall inflatable really manages to paint an intricate story.
Then again… what are we doing here people? Unless there’s a portion of the population that likes this kind of horror twist to Christmas, I don’t know who this decoration insinuating Santa-on-reindeer violence is for. But I guess I’m ultimately wrong for being skeptical, because the reviews on Walmart.com give the product 4.9 out of 5 stars and feature compliments such as “Walmart came through!” and “Light ’em up Santa!”
