We’re already closing in on the premiere of Season 2 of Marshals, and CBS finally released an official trailer to give fans a peak of what’s to come in Kayce Dutton’s continued story.
Believe it or not, the sophomore season of the Yellowstone spinoff is only a month a way. The team behind Marshals wasted no time starting production on Season 2. There were reports that executives at CBS gave the writers room the green light to start working on more episodes as early as February of this year, and it looks like that was certainly the case.
The jump Marshals got made it so that fans didn’t have to deal with a large gap between Season 1 and Season 2.
We had already heard that Luke Grimes-led procedural drama was going to fall into CBS’s primetime schedule for the 2026-2027 broadcast schedule. That was exciting news by itself, considering Season 1 premiered in the spring of 2026. But then we learned it would be returning in the fall, mere months after the inaugural season concluded… which is quite the quick turnaround.
And it has since been confirmed that the first episode of Marshals Season 2 will air on Sunday, October 4. Considering the last episode of Season 1 aired at the end of May, only having to wait around four months between seasons is a real treat for fans of the Yellowstone universe (especially in this modern age of television).
As far as what Season 2 will entail for Kayce Dutton and the rest of his U.S. Marshals team (played by Logan Marshall-Green and Arielle Kebbel), based upon the official trailer that CBS just released, it looks like trouble is still coming for the Dutton family. Andrea (Ash Santos) even calls Kayce a “chaos magnet” at one point in the two-minute-long sneak peek of the second season of Marshals.
Luke Grimes’ beloved Kayce Dutton character even delivered a line that works quite well as the synopsis for the show:
“The Dutton family legacy was never about land. It’s about always having to fight. Seems like no matter where I live, someone is willing to kill for it.”
It certainly feels like the show will continue to explore Kayce and Tate’s relationship, and how the the father is doing everything he can to protect his son – and keep him from following in his footsteps.
There’s even a scene where Tate and Kayce have a father-son heart-to-heart right beside the site of the grave of John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner in the flagship series). I guess you could call that a cameo? But that’s not the crossover fans have been hoping for.
Yellowstone fans have made it apparent that they’d love to see Marshals cross over with Dutton Ranch. The official trailer doesn’t reveal any sort of big-time special guests from the Taylor Sheridan universe, but then again, that wouldn’t make them that special, eh? I’m sure if Beth Dutton or Rip Wheeler are going to show up in Marshals, they are going to keep that top secret.
And even if the upcoming season doesn’t provide the cross over everyone has been waiting for, it looks like there’s plenty of action and drama to go around with Kayce Dutton. You can check out the trailer below:
