Atlanta Hawks Announcer Bob Rathbun Has Frightening Medical Emergency On Air

Bob Rathburn

Scary moment at the Atlanta Hawks game last night.

Viewers were left terrified and confused last night during the pregame show between the Atlanta Hawks and Oklahoma City Thunder, after the Hawks’ play-by-play commentator suffered an apparent medical emergency on air.

Bob Rathbun was discussing the game alongside Dominique Wilkins for Bally Sports, and while Wilkins was talking, Rathbun’s body tenses up and nearly falls back in his chair as he begins to convulse.

He was quickly rushed to a hospital to be treated for his condition, and according to the New York Post, the 68-year-old is said to be doing better, and is in “stable” condition in the hospital.

As he was going through the episode, medical personnel quickly rushed to Rathbun and the camera cut off.

The Hawks shared in a statement:

“Prior to tonight’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, play-by-play announcer Bob Rathbun briefly lost consciousness on the court.

Emergency medical professionals on-site quickly treated Rathbun for dehydration. He is stable, responsive and heading to Emory Midtown for further evaluation.”

Lauren Jbara had to fill in last second, and the Hawks ultimately lost to the Thunder 121-114, as the Thunder improved to 11-13 and the Hawks fell to 13-11 on the season.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Rathbun and his family, and we hope you get well soon.
