Sounds like Kayce Dutton might find love again this season.

The Kayce Dutton-focused Yellowstone spinoff has already aired its first season, and soon, Season 2 is officially back now. Much of the spinoff’s early storyline revolved around Luke Grimes’ character moving on after the death of his wife, Monica. There were a lot of fans that expressed their happiness about Kayce’s wife being killed off… but some of those same fans started complaining when the show’s writers started making Kayce move on a little too fast.

There have been a few characters that seemed to be potential love interests, and obviously, fans don’t want Kayce Dutton to be miserable for the rest of his life. But they thought introducing a romantic interest that soon was a little too much.

But it sounds like season 2 might be the time, as the will-they-won’t-they thing between Kayce and Andrea, who is played by Ash Santos, is slowly but surely heating up.

During interview with People, Grimes hinted that season 2 might finally see them getting more romantic outside of their professional relationship. In the season 2 premiere, Andrea says bye to Montana as she prepares to move Washington, D.C., but ultimately backs out to stay and work with her team in Montana.

Grimes likened their dynamic to  the couple played by John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer on The Office:

“I think it’s become one of those will they, won’t they kind of a thing. It’s almost a Jim and Pam sort of situation.”

Season 2 is actually still currently in production, and they haven’t written out their ending yet for Kayce and Andrea, but I have to imagine they have something in mind and he just doesn’t want to ruin it for the fans before they can watch it and get it just right in terms of the filming and storyline:

“It’s one of those things where the end of that is not written yet. [We have] to see where we land.”

Grimes does want “Kayce to be happy” and he Andrea would be “a really good option for him”:

“I do know I’d like Kayce to be happy at some point. I think he just needs to find a good person and find some love. And I think she would be a really good option for him.”

Show creator Spencer Hudnut agreed in that the couple has been a slow burn thus far,, but fans will see them “grow closer” this season. He says Andrea will come to see a different side of Kayce and that he’s someone “she can trust”:

“Even though they are such polar opposites, they started to really understand each other last [season] and understand that they’re driven by similar things. They have similar traumas in their past.

We’re going to see them grow closer in the first part of this season. Andrea’s going to see that Kayce is someone she can lean on; she can trust.”

Because of everything Kayce went through with Monica, he has obviously had a really hard time during this phase of his life, and he’s been very slow to open up or pursue anyone, and because of so much that’s happened in his past, beyond just losing Monica, Hudnut points out that Kayce:

“Obviously has a lot of red flags.”

The fans certainly want to see Kayce with a new lady, I think they should certainly make that a storyline for him this season, and I have to imagine that’s where this is all headed…

The new season is currently airing on CBS.
