New York Giants QB Jameis Winston Is On A Generational Run Of “Jameis-Isms”

Jameis Winston

There’s no other way to say it… New York Giants QB Jameis Winston is a national treasure.

The easiest way to explain the 32-year-old football player is that he’s the “People’s Quarterback.” You’d be hard pressed to find someone that dislikes “Famous Jameis.” He entered into all of our lives as a young playmaker at Florida State University, and he even brought a championship to the Seminoles in 2014.

Many thought Winston’s success at the collegiate level would translate directly to the NFL, and though he’s had some good seasons at the professional level – especially as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer – Jameis has become somewhat of a journeyman in recent years. That being said, Jameis is an undeniable record holder in the NFL. He’s the only quarterback in the history of the NFL to throw for over 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in one season (2018-2019).

I’d say creating the 30-30 club leaves behind a legacy, wouldn’t you?

Currently, Jameis is the starter for the New York Giants after the first quarterback on the depth chart – Jaxson Dart – went down with a season-ending injury. Winston got off to a shaky start stepping into the starting role, but he’s since put together a couple of solid performances. Winston has the Giants at the top of the NFC East at 3-1-1 (that tie last week was crazy, eh?), and it seems like everyone is now officially on board with the “Jameis Winston Experience.”

What does that entail exactly? Well, out on the football field, Jameis is going to give you some of the best plays you’ve ever seen… while simultaneously delivering some real head-scratching moments. Often times those juxtaposed plays happen back-to-back. It all makes for a very exciting presentation of football.

Off the field, Jameis provides all-timer quotes at rapid speed. One of my personal favorites is when he was playing for the Cleveland Browns a couple of years ago, and got absolutely fired up to play in the snow:

Thankful For Snow

“The horse is preparing for battle, but victory comes from the Lord. So I’m dependent on the Lord… I am so happy and grateful the Lord has blessed me to play in some snow. To be in true football weather in Cleveland, Ohio. It’s a beautiful day.”

You can tell that’s a guy that a) loves the Lord and b) loves some snow football.

As of late, Jameis has been on a generational run of “Jameis-isms.” Every time he’s got a microphone near him, it’s must-see television. When he took over the starting job for the Giants, he fielded a question about whether or not he could successfully lead the team:

Leading The Giants

“One thing that I do is forgetting those that is behind… and reaching forward to what’s ahead.”

That staring off into space afterwards is brilliant work. Gives big time “philosopher” vibes.

A week or so after that moment, Winston was at the podium talking to the media about the week’s upcoming matchup, which had some nasty weather forecasted. He proceeded to look up into the sky (even though I’m 95% sure this time with the media happened indoors) and say this:

Sunshine & Birds Chirping

“Today is beautiful. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping. I can only focus on right now.”

Yep… that’s a franchise quarterback right there. It’s such a shame he’s been demoted to backup the past couple of years and we haven’t heard as much out of him.

All this time, we’ve been missing out on moments like this, where he quotes the “Good Book” when asked about how he feels like he’s progressing this year:

A Day Is Like A Thousand Years

“The Bible says a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years a day. Yesterday feels like a thousand years ago, that’s how relevant it is, so today I’m focus on being one percent better.”

We must protect Jameis Winston – and let him speak as often as possible – at all costs.

The New York Giants quarterback was even asked about how he views what people call the “Jameis Winston Experience,” and once again, his answer didn’t disappoint:

Salt & Light

“My take on the Jameis Winston experience is that I am called to be the light of the world and salt of Earth.”

Well said, Jameis. Well said.

The “Jameis Winston Experience” rolls on this weekend, as the New York Giants host the New Orleans Saints (a former team of Winston) this Sunday. Can’t wait to see what quotes Jameis cooks up in the pre-game and post-game.
