How is that not a valid reason? I thought this was America…

If you’re a NASCAR fan, then you’ve probably heard race fans throw out the phrase “Raise hell, praise Dale” a time or two.

It’s a way to honor the late, great Dale Earnhardt who got his start racing his hometown of Kannapolis, North Carolina, first working on cars with his father, Ralph Earnhardt, who was also a pretty legendary race car driver. He went on to become the greatest driver the sport has ever seen, winning 7 NASCAR Cup Series Championships throughout his career (tied for the all-time record for most premier series titles with Richard Petty and Jimmie Johnson), winning in 1980, 1986, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1993, and 1994). He won 76 Cup Series races too.

So when the Greensboro police department (Greensboro is a town about an hour or so from Dale Sr.’s hometown) tweeted out a message saying that “‘Raise Hell, praise Dale’ is not an appropriate response” as to why you were speeding, it got quite a bit of attention online:

“‘Raise hell. Praise Dale’ is not an appropriate response when we ask you why you were speeding.”

I have to imagine they’ve gotten that one more than a few times…

Dale Earnhardt Jr. saw the tweet and responded, joking that it should surely reduce the ticket down to “10mph or less over the limit”:

“Surely that should reduce it down to 10mph or less over the limit…”

But weren’t having it…

“Sir, that will make it 107 mph.”

Hey, he tried…

There were tons of tother great responses online too:

“For legal purposes, we agree with this statement. (Respectfully, we disagree.).”

“How about ‘I’m just putting my foot down and not stopping until I see God or a checkered flag?'”

“I’M SORRY I THOUGHT THIS WAS AMERICA.”

“Officer, ‘Free Bird’ was playing.”

“I mean it’s only the American thing to do.”

“1A includes religious commentary about the church of Dale and such commentary is an appropriate response.”

“Well s***…what about ‘If you’re not first, you’re last?'”

“Then what is? What the f*** is?”

“I’m sorry, but in North Carolina it 100% is!”

“That is an appropriate response to anything.”

“Sir, you pulled over a patriot.”

“Let him go.”

“Literally 1984.”

“Can’t have s*** in Greensboro.”

“More lies being pushed by the government.”

“God bless him for trying.”

If “Raise hell, praise Dale” isn’t a valid reason, what do we have left…
