The highly anticipated Tulsa King spinoff – Frisco King – just gave fans a first look.

Ever since the rumors of Samuel L. Jackson’s Tulsa King character, Russell Lee Washington Jr., getting his own show first started, there’s been a lot of question marks around the series. Would it happen? Would the plans fall through? Where would it take place? And what would the show be called?

There for a while, the working title was “NOLA King,” and it was expected to be based in New Orleans, Louisiana. That would have been quite the environment for Sheridan to explore, especially with Samuel L. Jackson’s character, who was first introduced in Season 2 of Tulsa King.

But shortly after the speculation really got going, Variety reported that the spinoff would be abandoning the “NOLA King” name and shifting to a different setting for the series.

Not long after that, Paramount+ announced that the spinoff with Jackson would indeed be moving forward, and that they’d be switching gears from “NOLA King” to “Frisco King,” which obviously implied that the show would be set in Frisco, Texas instead of New Orleans. And that makes sense… because Taylor Sheridan’s sprawling studio is set up in Fort Worth.

That might be a bummer to some who were intrigued by Samuel L. Jackson being dropped into the bayou, but there’s more good news to offset that change of setting. Paramount Television Studios president Matt Thunell revealed that Sheridan is the writer behind the entire first season of the upcoming spinoff:

“We are honored to have Taylor Sheridan write the first season of ‘Frisco King’ and bring to life Samuel L. Jackson’s iconic character. Having him pen all episodes of the season with his singular voice will be a treat for fans of ‘Tulsa King’ and audiences around the world.”

So you already know the series is going to be good.

And it certainly seems like a situation where, if you like Tulsa King, you’ll like Frisco King. How could you not? This is the great Samuel L. Jackson were talking about here. As to what his character will be getting into in Frisco, the show’s synopsis paints a “suburbia isn’t as it seems” scenario:

“Lee Washington (Samuel L. Jackson) lands in Frisco, Texas and discovers a hustler’s playground hidden beneath the polished surface of American suburbia. Recruiting an ambitious protégé, a loyal driver, and a growing network of eccentric partners, Lee transforms small hustles into big business. But, every new score raises the stakes, and as his influence grows, so do the risks, forcing Lee to stay one grift ahead. Frisco may not know it yet, but its new king has arrived.”

Here’s the official teaser for Frisco King… it looks like its going to be a whole lot of fun, and it appears that Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight Manfredi will at least be there to get things off the ground:

And as you can see, fans don’t have to wait much longer to see Frisco King on their television screens. The new series is set to premiere its first two episodes on December 18, and will then drop an episode on a weekly basis after that every Friday on Paramount+.
