Maybe Ella’s going to be spilling some tea here pretty soon… Ella Langley is gearing up to release her highly-anticipated sophomore album Dandelion, which will be out in less than a month on April 10th.
She put out the title track “Dandelion,” the hit single “Choosin’ Texas,” and “Loving Life Again,” to give fans a taste of all 18 tracks on the Miranda Lambert-produced album, and during a conversation with Elaina Smith on her Night’s with Elaina radio show, Ella talked about just how excited she is for fans to hear this record.
She likened it to her “most memorable Christmas,” adding that she feels incredibly confident in her songs, her band, and who she is growing into as an artist:
“Do you remember your most memorable Christmas you counted down to? That’s how it feels. I’m so excited. I feel so confident in these songs, I feel, no matter what happens with them, I’m so proud of this body of work. I’m proud of what me and my team have put into this, what me and my band have built.
Ben West came in and we co-produced together and Miranda Lambert executive produced, like, no matter what happens with this record, nobody can take any of that away from me and the experience it brought me. But I’m so excited, because I didn’t make this record just for me., I made it to live in the world, to live some place.
I really believe that these songs are going to relate to people on a level my music hasn’t before. But also, that freeness in, you can just listen to the song and groove, you know what I mean?”
Ella also explained that, while the casual listener could enjoy the songs and not think twice about what she’s saying or the deeper meaning behind her lyrics, much like the great music of Fleetwood Mac, you certainly could read much more into it too, and of course, their song “Silver Springs” comes to mind, which Nicks has said is about the heartbreaking split between herself and Buckingham:
“But if you want to think deeply about it, you sure can. I think that’s something Fleetwood Mac did a great job at. You can kinda just listen, do whatever, but if you want to sit there and dig through Stevie Nicks’ lyrics and Lindsey Buckingham’s lyrics, you’re like, ‘Woah,’ you know what I mean?”
Of course, Ella’s personal life has been discussed and dissected plenty of the last couple years, and there were, and still are, constant rumors about whether or not she and Riley Green, her duet partner on her first big hit “You Look Like You Love Me,” were ever a thing or had some sort of fling…
Honestly, I don’t think she made that Fleetwood Mac comparison by accident, and Ella seemed to hint that there might some tea, so to speak, in some of the songs if you read into it enough… and if there’s one thing fans are good at, it’s reading way too much into everything, so maybe they’ll be able to put some pieces together once the album comes out in terms of her personal life.
Ella isn’t worried about it, though, as she said confidentially that she didn’t second guess any of the songs she chose to include, and if she’s asked about what any of them are about and she doesn’t want to put it all out there, she can assure them it’s “not nothing”:
“Nah. Nah. I’m not worried about it. Because, why, you know? What’s gonna happen? If somebody’s gonna ask me what it’s about, all have to say is, ‘Not nothing.’ I don’t have to leave everything on the table. I leave a lot, but not everything.”
I think it will be one of those “read between the lines” kind of situations, and I have no doubt fans will get to the bottom of it very quickly:

Ella is on an unprecedented run with the lead single from Dandelion, “Choosin’ Texas,” which spent its fourth week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, giving Ella the record of longest-running #1 hit on Hot 100 by a female country singer in history, surpassing Taylor Swift who spent three weeks at #1 back in 2012 with her pop hit, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”
It’s shaping up to be a massive release for Ella, and I can’t wait to hear all of the new music, especially “Speaking Terms.”
