How long will Katy Perry continue to make this her entire personality? Hopefully it will end sooner rather than later…
The pop star kicked off her Lifetimes Tour 2025 at CDMX Arena in Mexico City, Mexico last night, after previously revealing the set list about a week and a half ago during a trip to space on a Blue Origin flight. Six women, including Perry, took a Blue Origin rocket into outer space for an 11-minute flight, which also included Gayle King, Amanda Nguyen, Aisha Bowe, Lauren Sánchez and Kerianne Flynn. Perry in particular made a lot of headlines leading up to the trip (she also ended up having drama with Wendy’s?), and all of them seemed excited about this wild adventure… well, everyone except for CBS News co-host, the aforementioned Gayle King.
Blue Origin takes passengers to the Kármán line, approximately 62-mile (100 km) above the surface of the Earth, which is a relatively arbitrary line that is regarded as the “boundary of space.” However, Blue Origin’s New Shepard are not ships that orbit Earth like the traditional NASA rocket launches we see. And just for reference, the international Space Station orbits at around 250 miles from the Earth’s surface.
Before they left, Lauren, the fiancée of billionaire Amazon and Blue Origin owner Jeff Bezos, said much of the trip was aimed at making space-wear (I guess that’s what I’m calling it?), more suitable to women and their fashion preferences… seems really unnecessary to me, but whatever.

But the group of women have received a lot of criticism online, and by other celebrities even, for the gluttonous nature of the whole thing and the fact that there genuinely was no point in this other than getting press… they didn’t explore, or actually do anything while in space… they were up there for less than ten minutes. One of richest men in the world let his fiancée and her famous friends ride in a space ship… not exactly a groundbreaking feat here. Again, it’s their money and company, do whatever you want, but something about it does feel kind of dystopian. I’ve seen tons of people comparing it to The Hunger Games:

But during the tour stop last night, according to the Daily Mail, Katy had more to say about it, and what she said could be interpreted as her addressing the haters of this whole space trip, asking the crowd:
“Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?”
She also took a selfie with some of her backup dancers wearing blue NASA jumpsuits, so she certainly hinted at it and I assume will make this part of her show for the whole tour. They also reported that, at one point, Perry appeared with tubes connected to her head, which could also hint at the whole space thing… to be fair, Katy does have a song called “E.T.,” so maybe that has something to do with the space imagery as well.
Honestly, I like some of Katy’s big hits, but generally she can come across as pretty annoying during interviews, and making this whole space thing something it wasn’t and acting like you’re a real astronaut it just getting old… in this interview, she seems to genuinely genuinely believe she’s an astronaut now:

I’ll be honest, you wouldn’t catch me on any sort of flight to anywhere near space, so good for her, but like I’ve said multiple times about the way all of these women are treating this ride… read the room, and please move onto the more pressing issues we have here on planet Earth. And nobody is calling your dreams crazy… we’re calling your self-importance crazy. Chase your dreams girl… go to space as much as you’d like… just don’t pretend your saving the world. You’re not.
