There’s nothing like snow in the south.
Winter Storm Enzo is currently bringing cold temperatures and out-of-the-norm winter weather to the Gulf Coast. Southern Texas got hit hard with over four inches of snow early this morning, and now Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and even the “Pan Handle” of Florida are expecting historic snowfall.
The best part about snow falling in the southern states is that the people that live there literally have no idea what to do. They moved down there to avoid weather like this, yet Mother Nature occasionally decides to throw them a curveball and bring snow to the snow birds. People in south simply don’t know how to react (or drive) when snow and freezing rain fall, and most southern states don’t have the snow-clearing equipment to be able to deal with it either.
And I’d remiss if I didn’t leave out the great state of Louisiana. They’re getting a piece of this winter storm as well, and as CBS College Sports reporter Josh Pate pointed out, Baton Rouge and the campus of LSU have already gotten more than six inches of snow. Pate said in a post earlier this morning that the internet should expect to see some wild photos and videos come out of LSU’s campus:
“Legendary photos and videos will come out of Baton Rouge today. Over half a foot of snow on LSU’s campus.”

Guess what? Josh Pate was right.
Someone replied to the post above with a video that appears to show a Louisiana man riding around on the snow… using his airboat. That’s right. The vessels that are commonly used to scoot around the shallow, swampy marshlands of the south are apparently perfect for dashing through the snow (in a one-fanned open boat).
When you think about it, an airboat is an ideal way to get around in the snow. The flat bottom of the watercraft can skid atop the snow, all while the large fan strapped to the back gives the ideal propulsion needed to slide on the slick, wintry precipitation. It’s basically just an endless sledding device.
These boats are usually used for fishing, hunting, or ecotourism… but someone needs to start an airboat snow transportation business. At the very least, these fan boats can come in handy if you wish to do some donuts in the snow. It’s all the fun you could want, without leaving behind tracks. And when you throw in the fact that these things can usually do 35 miles per hour in the water, there might not be a better way to get around a snow-covered town.
The only problem is that most air boats have trouble stopping, or going in reverse. Just playing a little devil’s advocate here.
Regardless, this southern man is making the most of his snow day. If that post above was a contest to see which legendary video or photo was the best, I think this Louisiana man has already won. How can you top an air boat (that’s meant for traversing swamps) doing donuts on the freshly fallen snow?
