Fans have good reason to get excited for the highly anticipated Yellowstone spinoff, Dutton Ranch.
I’d guess that the Yellowstone faithful out there have been counting down the days until the latest Taylor Sheridan-spawned spinoff premieres on Paramount+. Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are set to reprise their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler in a series titled Dutton Ranch. The show, which has been described as “Yellowstone Season 6,” will finally premiere on May 15.
Check your calendar… that’s tomorrow, folks.
The latest, Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler-focused spinoff will return three Yellowstone actors: Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser and Finn Little. As for the rest of the cast, Annette Bening is set to play a powerful owner of a major Texas ranch named Beulah Jackson. Ed Harris will be playing the role of Everett McKinney, who is described as a kind-hearted veteran who has hung up his guns for a more peaceful life. Australian actor Jai Courtney and country music singer Morgan Wade have also been announced as a part of the cast.
It wasn’t long ago when fans of the growing Yellowstone universe were informed of a premiere date for the show. Paramount+ only shared the premiere info when they posted the first official teaser trailer for Dutton Ranch. It was then that we also got an updated synopsis of what to expect out of the show:
“Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton gamble everything on a new life in South Texas, but the promise of building a future far from the ghosts of Yellowstone quickly collides with brutal new realities and a rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire.”
Though fans haven’t gotten a chance to watch the spinoff series just yet, critics have gotten an early preview, and they evidently like what they’ve seen. At one point, when just the first five critic reviews were in on Rotten Tomatoes, Dutton Ranch boasted a perfect 100% score. In a time where it doesn’t seem like anyone can agree on anything, critics came together and confirmed that the Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler spinoff is going to be must-watch television.
The rating has since dropped to 86% with 14 total critic ratings (12 are “Fresh,” and 2 are “Rotten”), and though that’s not 100%, it’s still very impressive. In case you were wondering, the highest rated shows within the Yellowstone universe are actually 1923 and 1883. The Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford-led prequel has a 94% Tomatometer score, and the show set even earlier in the Dutton timeline starring Tim McGraw and Faith Hill sits at an impressive 89% (the flagship series, Yellowstone, is 83%).
All that to say, if Dutton Ranch holds around the mid-80s for its Tomatometer score, it could shape up to be one of the best shows that’s come out of Yellowstone. The first two episodes premiere tomorrow, May 15th, and will be available to stream on Paramount+, in addition to airing on the Paramount Network at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with weekly episodes following through July 3rd.
