The title track is here.
Today, Riley Green “That’s Just Me,” the next song from his forthcoming fourth studio album of the same name. It’s the fifth song released from the 19-song tracklist, and like so many of his songs, it’s another sad one that finds him reminiscing on a lost love and wondering if his former flame misses him as much as he misses her.
A solo write by Riley, which are always some of his best work (“My Way,” “Jesus Saves,” “Don’t Mind If I Do,” the list goes on), he likens this girl to the “gorgeous… back home dogwoods in the spring,” and he admits that he’s been drinking too much whiskey and doing what he can to forget about her, though nothing seems to really work:
“Damn I think you’re gorgeous
Like them back home dogwoods in the spring
Hell, I can’t avoid it
Maybe you’re the only thing I need
Heavens gotta be a full moon sky
With you on a back porch swing
But, maybe that’s just me
Do you ever go down memory lane
When you’re tryna sleep?
Do you ever pour out a little too
Much whiskey in your drink?
Do you ever drive by my house
Thinkin’ about how it used to be
Or is that just me?”
Riley has often talked about how much he loves writing sad songs, as those are the kinds of country songs he’s usually drawn to, and so I’m not surprised that this is another one along those lines.
He’s released quite a few songs from the tracklist, including “Imagine That,” “My Way,” “Think As You Drunk” and more, and the majority have been sad country songs, which I am very much here for, though I’m sure the rest of the tracklist will have a lot more variety. It’s simply what he’s good at, and I appreciate that he never strays too far from it.
Riley’s career has blown up over the last several years, and while all artists evolve, he hasn’t changed who he is fundamentally as an artist. Fans can always count on him to deliver really quality songs with beautiful lyrics and great production. It’s shaping up to be a really great album, and I can’t wait to hear all of the other songs, especially his songs with Brooks & Dunn and Randy Owen.
That’s Just Me is set for release on Friday, September 18th, just days before Riley makes his debut as a judge on the The Voice on Monday, September 21st.
