Five days away.
We are officially five days away from Yellowstone’s long-awaited return to our TV screens for part 2 of Season 5. With the hit Taylor Sheridan show returning, the press surrounding the show and its characters is at an all-time high, rebuilding the hype around the plot line and what is in store.
While the plot might look different this season with Kevin Costner not returning to the show, familiar faces like Jamie Dutton, Rip Wheeler, Beth Dutton, and more will be back on our TV screens fighting to take the land or to protect the sacred Dutton Ranch.
One of the fans’ favorite characters is the cowboy heartthrob Rip Wheeler, played by Cole Hauser. His rugged look, combined with his outlaw ways, is a recipe for women to swoon. However, on a recent sit-down with CBS Mornings, Hauser revealed that the popularity of his character shocked him and Taylor Sheridan once the show’s first season aired.
“I mean, I loved the darkness of the character, but I didn’t know that it was going to have such an effect on women, especially, I would say. That they would enjoy a character that is as dark as he is. I think it was a surprise for Taylor and I both.”
Can I call bullsh*t? You’re putting a steamy cowboy on screen who has a soft side and knows how to tame Beth Dutton’s wild spirit. That’s going to get the romantics that tune into the show. And for those who are not into the sappy love side of his character, you get him killing some folks, and next thing you know, the women who love a bad boy are now on board. He’s the ultimate heartthrob.
After reading the scripts and seeing the other options he could portray on screen, Co-host Gayle King asked Hauser why he chose that character.
“I saw, you know, again after talking to Taylor and spending a lot of time with him, I saw a character with growth who could grow through the seasons. So, I liked the fact that he was the enforcer, but there was also something very kind of beautiful that he wrote as far as his love for Beth and the family, for that matter, and John Dutton.”
Another reason women love Rip is that when he takes matters into his own hands, he does so toward guilty parties rather than innocent ones. Weirdly, this makes viewers feel as though he is making sure justice is served. He also must fulfill those unlawful duties as a branded member of the ranch’s team, laying down his life to protect the land.
At the end of the interview, Hauser is asked how long he and Beth are separated. At the end of the first half of season five, Rip leaves Beth for Texas to relocate some cattle, but Hauser teases they are not apart for long.
“Not very long. As you know, Beth kind of does what she wants to do, so she finds her way to Texas, and we have a little something that you guys will be excited to watch.”
It sounds like a little NSFW action might make women fall even more in love with Rip Wheeler?
I know I will be ready with my popcorn for the show’s triumphant return on Sunday evening. This sounds like it’s going to be action-packed and drama-filled.
