Snoop was ready to call up the big guns.
The Voice just returned for their 200th season or whatever number we’re on by now (it’s 26, I had to look it up) and legendary rapper Snoop Dogg made his debut as a judge for the first time.
Snoop is joining a lineup of judges that includes Reba, Michael Buble and Gwen Stefani, and he’s quickly realizing he’s gotta do whatever it takes when it comes to competing with the other judges to get talent to join his team.
On a recent episode, country singer Tanner Frick from Mississippi earned a four-chair turn with his performance of Morgan Wallen’s “Thought You Should Know.” And it quickly turned into a battle between the judges to landing the talented singer.
Obviously everybody assumed that Reba would have the upper hand given that he’s a country singer, but they all made their best pitch, with Michael Buble even showing off his country creds by bragging about…his friendship with Blake Shelton, the husband of one of his fellow judges.
And Snoop Dogg also bragged about some of his own country connections when Reba compared Frick to Chris Stapleton:
“I got Chris’s number, by the way. Me and Chris got the Monday Night Football theme song, by the way. So if you pick Snoop Dogg I’m pretty sure I can walk him in here and get a verse or two.”
As he mentioned, Snoop and Chris teamed up to record a new version of the Phil Collins classic “In The Air Tonight” for Monday Night Football a couple years ago, so he was hoping his connections would help him land Frick on his team.
But ultimately, as everybody expected, the country singer ended up picking the country singer and joining Team Reba.
Don’t feel too bad though Snoop. At least you still have Chris Stapleton’s number.
