An all-time classy move by Kenny Chesney.
The country star wrapped up his headlining summer Sun Goes Down tour at Gillette Stadium at the end of August, and according to MassLive.com, he also donated over $1 million to several organizations across the state of Massachusetts.
He declined to comment on the huge donation, but the site reached out to his team and they confirmed it was Chesney who made the donation, saying he loves playing at Gillette and wanted to give back to everyone who has made his time there so special over the years:
“Kenny loves the people of who’ve been such a part of the Gillette experience over all these years.
As someone who likes to quietly give back to enrich others’ lives, this is his way of spreading the love and saying thank you for everything that’s made all these stadium shows so special. To him, it’s a gift for others, not something he wants to talk about.”
MassLive reported that $100,000 of the money would go to the Foxborough police and fire departments, respectively, as well as other portions of it going to places like the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
At the time of the concerts, Chesney shared in a press release that they were his best Gillette crowds ever, as he played to over in front of more than 180,000 fans combined between both shows:
“I told Tom, my stage manager, this is the best Gillette crowd we’ve ever had. They were so there, so on fire. We could feel it before we hit the stage.
Once we were out there, it was insane. I always say ‘Sports, family, friends, music;’ tonight with Zac and Megan, it was so strong, I had to bring my mom and her twin sister out to feel the crowd, too.”
It’s clear that the very humble Kenny Chesney doesn’t want to take any public credit for such a generous donation, but he should be recognized for that kind of charitable work that will make a huge difference to so many different people in Massachusetts.
A huge shoutout to him for doing it so quietly, and with so much class. We need more artists like him out there doing great things for his fans and community.
