The Kayce Dutton-focused Yellowstone spinoff – Marshals – has officially announced when it will return for Season 2.
Despite some criticism, it’s safe to say that the procedural drama starring Luke Grimes has been a success thus far for CBS. The formula was simple really: take an established Yellowstone character, drop them into a format that has been utilized by networks for years, and see what happens. CBS was banking on new viewers being able to tune in without feeling like they had to do homework, and Yellowstone fans to just enjoy seeing a beloved character on their television screens again.
They hit the nail right on the head.
The monster ratings and massive response to the show led to the official order of a second season of Marshals back in early March, shortly after the show premiered … and that came as no surprise. The Yellowstone brand just has that kind of carry, and it translated quite well into network television (that’s somewhat dependent on who you ask).
When the news of the renewal became public in April, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach provided this statement about the network’s excitement about the series and its continuation:
“Marshals delivered a breakout performance, capturing a massive audience across platforms and quickly establishing itself as one of TV’s most powerful new series. The overwhelming viewer response speaks to the strength of the Yellowstone world, the bold character-driven storytelling from the creative team and the dynamic cast performances led by Luke Grimes.”
And the good news is that the team behind Marshals wasted no time starting production on Season 2. There were reports that executives at CBS gave the writers room the green light to start working on more episodes as early as February of this year, and all signs point towards that being true. The jump that Marshals got actually means that fans won’t have to deal with a large gap between Season 1 and Season 2.
We already knew that the sophomore season of Marshals was going to fall into CBS’s primetime schedule for the 2026-2027 broadcast schedule. That was exciting news by itself, considering Season 1 premiered in the spring of 2026. But then we learned it would be returning in the fall, mere months after the inaugural season concluded… which is quite the quick turnaround.
And now, we know that the first episode of Marshals Season 2 will air on Sunday, October 4. Considering the last episode of Season 1 aired at the end of May, only having to wait around four months between seasons is a real treat for fans of the Yellowstone universe (especially in this modern age of television).

And Luke Grimes has previously shared that Season 2 will be a whole lot longer than Season 1. The inaugural run of Marshals was 13 episodes. The sophomore season is apparently going to fall between 18 and 20 episodes. So not only is it a short turn around time… there’s going to be roughly four months worth of episodes to be released (assuming Marshals does weekly releases with no breaks) when the series returns.
