One of the most incredible Cinderella stories you’ll ever see in sports. Nick Bienz works a day job at Golf Galaxy and plays small-scale tournaments here and there. Never tried to make it into a PGA Tour event until Monday’s qualifier for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Not only did Bienz go out and shoot 65, but he had to weather an eight-hole playoff whilst three beers deep. In the end, Bienz prevailed, and he’s going to tee it up at Detroit Golf Club on Thursday with all the big boys.
Monday Q Info on Twitter is a great follow. Obsessed with Monday qualifiers, as the handle would imply, and the more obscure corners of the game of golf. The man lives for moments like these, and might’ve never had a bigger one than picking up on Bienz’s story in real time.
I’ve never rooted for someone so hard in the playoff. Nick Bienz went by me here and said.
“Remember how I said 3 beers would be a perfect amount? Well I’m perfect”.
I can’t tell you how much I love this. pic.twitter.com/nV9ERc8rbe

Upon hearing about Bienz’s partially booze-fueled exploits, PGA Tour veteran Kevin Kisner demanded to be paired with him.
Pair him with me @PGATOUR https://t.co/wGCzXJkPZr

Haters who’ll immediately write Bienz’s tale off as fake, I have bad news for you: We have visual and audio evidence of what transpired between the guy’s exceptional round and the agonizing wait till the playoff.
If this four minutes doesn’t make you love Mondays I can’t help you.
Nick Bienz works at Golf Galaxy, has never played any pga tour sanctioned event, he is so nervous he’s pounding beers. Just shot 65.
Please take the time to watch this. pic.twitter.com/BeXgsjiWFv— Monday Q Info (@acaseofthegolf1) June 24, 2024
A college golfer at Indiana University-Indianapolis, Bienz clearly seems to have what it takes to be a pro if he can focus on golf full-time. I mean I guess he technically does since he works at a golf store, but you know what I mean.
Bienz is keeping company with the likes of John Daly when it comes to golfers who I immediately think of when booze and the most improbable circumstances are involved.
Can’t say enough once more about how Monday Q Info really did a phenomenal job recapping all the action. Congrats to Nick Bienz. Go low twice more and make it to the weekend in Detroit, sir!
