Jolene ain’t got nothin’ on Mrs. Dolly Parton.
Of course, Dolly famously penned the song after a woman at her local bank was getting a little too flirty with her husband Carl Dean not long after Carl and Dolly got married, though her real name wasn’t actually Jolene.
Dolly took mercy and renamed her for the song, and honestly, it’s probably a good thing that she did, because it’s one of the most recognizable country songs of all time and is of course synonyms with that name. It was included as the title track to Dolly’s 1974 album of the same name, and peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Country songs chart as a single.
And yesterday on X (Twitter), an account called @fasc1nate, which shares lots of old historical photos and stories, posted a picture of Dolly that was taken in a photo booth in the 1960’s, more specifically in 1966, and she looks absolutely stunning.
Dolly would’ve been about 20-years old here, and obviously it was way before Dolly had any sort of work done or started wearing her famous platinum blonde wigs. She was, and still is, breathtakingly beautiful, and people in the comments had a field day talking about how there was no way on this earth Dolly was really threatened by Jolene when she looked like this:

Like, seriously… Dolly is one of the most beautiful women on the planet (inside and out), and always has been, so there’s just no way Jolene was ever really coming for her or her marriage in any real way.
I mean, these hilarious comments from the post really sum it up best… and let’s be real, Dolly has always had “it,” and still does at 78 years young (see the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving halftime show last year).

I’m kind of partial to this brilliant theory, though… nothing else makes sense:
It's time we have a conversation about the possibility that Dolly was Jolene and she wrote the song from the point of view of every other woman in her town https://t.co/jqsPeSqTfi
