THE SANDMAN AS A SPACEMAN?
Sorry for typing in all caps there. I’m just really excited for the new film Spaceman to drop on Netflix on March 1st, which will allow moviegoers (or Netflix stayers I guess?) another chance to see Adam Sandler play in a serious, dramatic role.
For those of you that are used to seeing Sandler in his classic, slapstick comedies, I understand that it might be hard to imagine the SNL alumni in a movie that’s not trying to get a ton of laughs.
However, he’s shown off his seamless ability to switch from comedian to dramedian (I made that up, but you know what I’m saying) in movies like Click (2006), Punch-Drunk Love (2002), and his most recent, thrilling crime drama Uncut Gems (2019).
Now, the Sandman is taking a swing at playing a spaceman struggling with isolation, and trying to fix his struggling marriage from thousands of miles away, with the help of a talking space spider. I know I just made up a word a second ago, but you’ll have to trust me on this one, because that’s actually what this drama is about.
Here’s the official synopsis for the film, which features the talented likes of Sandler, Carey Mulligan, and Paul Dano:
“An astronaut (Sandler) realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth. Desperate to fix things with his wife (Mulligan), he is helped by a mysterious ancient creature (Dano) he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship.”
And we’ve now also got our first, long sneak peak of the new movie, and it looks as wild and crazy (and psychedelic) as the movie’s synopsis. You can check out the trailer for Spaceman below:
Will you be grabbing a bowl of popcorn and plopping down on your couch to watch that?
I think I will, and everyone in the reply section of Netflix’s trailer reveal seemed to be excited for Sandler’s latest project as well:
This looks amazing! I can’t wait to watch
