Could this song get any worse? I thought not until this version dropped.
If you aren’t familiar with “Fancy Like,” congratulations… you are one of the few who this track has not personally victimized. In 2021, Walker Hayes, who by all account is a good dude and a great family man (so nothing personal), released “Fancy Like,” and it blew up on TikTok and other social media platforms, eventually leading the track to be placed over an Applebee’s commercial because of the line:
“Yeah, we fancy like Applebee’s on a date night…”
After the already annoying song was put on the commercial, people’s ears were borderline bleeding hearing this song blast through their TV speakers. The commercial was beyond annoying and raised a really good point of how Applebee’s could afford this in their marketing budget.
Just when we think that we have FINALLY passed the “Fancy Like” lyrics cycling through our brains, Walker Hayes hit us with a big SIKE.
No one asked for it… but Walker Hayes decided to give “Fancy Like” a holiday facelift, releasing “Fancy Like Christmas.” With the same jingle as the original “Fancy Like” track, Hayes swapped out some lyrics to fit the holiday season.
“Yeah, we fancy like Christmas round a fake tree.”
He sat down with People Magazine, saying that they revisited the song on a writing day, and he decided to put a spin on it.
“It was kind of a revisit of the day we did the original, and I just love it. It makes me so happy.
This joy has really refueled me with this excitement to get in and go. Let’s have some fun. Let’s go outside the box and play. And that’s what I needed. It’s funny how this song came back and did that for me.”
Well, Walker Hayes, while this is a good, family-friendly song, it does not make me happy knowing I’m about to have this stuck in my head. Don’t worry, folks, this will not end up on the Whiskey Riff Country Christmas Songs That Don’t Suck playlist.
