What’s Morgan Wallen got up his sleeve?
That’s what fans are wondering after the singer posted a cryptic Instagram story last night that simply said:
“I guess Country’s Cool Now?”
The theories immediately began flying, with some speculating that Morgan’s hinting at a collaboration with Lainey Wilson, who has a new song called “Country’s Cool Again” and recently announced her 2024 headlining Country’s Cool Again tour.
Others wondered if Morgan was actually throwing shade at Lainey for some reason, especially after the queen of bell-bottom country beat him out for Entertainer of the Year at the CMA Awards.
Of course that doesn’t make much sense, because Lainey is opening for Morgan on some dates for his 2024 One Night At A Time tour, so it doesn’t sound like there’s any bad blood between them.
But still others speculated that it was actually directed towards another artist: Maren Morris.
Maren recently made headlines when she seemingly announced that she was leaving country music, only to come back a couple weeks later and say that she never really said that (despite calling it a “toxic institution” that she could no longer be a part of) and that she’s only leaving “some parts” of it behind.
Obviously Maren was one of the most outspoken critics of Wallen when he was caught on tape using a racial slur with his friends back in 2021, so people online think that maybe Morgan is referencing her about-face on country music in his Instagram story.
And yet another theory is that it’s a hint about his upcoming appearance on the Billboard Music Awards, which air tomorrow night. Morgan is nominated for…well, just about every category, and will also be performing on the show, so maybe it’s a hint that Lainey will be performing with him?
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if Morgan has something up his sleeve, or if he was just throwing shade at…somebody with his cryptic Instagram post.
But if I had to guess, I’d say we can probably expect a collaboration with Lainey Wilson at some point in the future – maybe on her unreleased song “Country’s Cool Again.”
