The cover we need.

Lainey Wilson recently honored Matraca Berg, one of the co-writers of Deana Carter’s 90’s classic “Strawberry Wine,” with a cover of the hit song, and she absolutely crushed it.

The performance happened at the BMI Awards last week, just a day before the CMA Awards, as Berg was being given the BMI Icon Award.

Written by Matraca along with Gary Harrison, “Strawberry Wine” was Deana’s debut single, and included on her debut studio album Did I Shave My Legs for This?

The song eventually became her first hit after it peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs that same year, and course, has become her signature tune and a country classic over the years, too.

So, it was only right Lainey treated attendees with her rendition of such an iconic song, and even more fitting is the fact that Lainey’s single “Watermelon Moonshine” (that went #1 earlier this year) pulled some inspiration from “Strawberry Wine,” as she’s mentioned before in previous interviews.

Jelly Roll’s wife Bunnie shared part of Lainey’s performance over on TikTok, and you should definitely take a minute or two out of your day to watch it.

Lainey sounds absolutely perfect… her voice was made for this song:

@ohheyitsbunnie So beautiful, this girl deserves everything she has coming her way ✨ #jellyandbunnie #laineywilson ♬ original sound – Bunnie 🫧
